Welcoming speech by the Lord Mayor

The Kissinger Sommer is about to begin. Every year we look forward to it with anticipation. In the Beethoven year 2020 celebrating the composer's 250th birthday the Kissinger Sommer uses the opportunity to focus its programme on his repertoire.

ob_kgOver the course of the Kissinger Sommer you can enjoy Beethoven's „Missa solemnis“ and his 9th symphony with the „Ode to Joy“ in the historical Max-Littmann-Saal. These two exclusive concerts are accompanied by a project of the Bad Kissingen Future Lab in which professional musicians create a new version of Beethoven's opera „Fidelio“ with enthusiasts. In his time Beethoven tried to push the boundaries of music, today his music transcends the boundaries of the world. His „Ode to Joy“ became the hymn of Europe and shows how different nations can have something in common through music. The Kissinger Sommer is another example for how there are no boundaries for music. This year there will again be numerous international stars on our stages and international guests in our halls. Behind the scenes everything is prepared for this wonderful summer festival and the unique feeling of the Kissinger Sommer is not far off. Here in Bad Kissingen we don't just want to the managers of the Kissinger Sommer but also act as hosts for you, our esteemed festival guests. Dive into this splendid interplay between the festival and city, which creates a one-of-a-kind atmosphere, and look forward to an unforgettable experience in our concert halls and beautiful city.
