Rossini-Saal

Tanja Tetzlaffvioloncello

Johann Sebastian Bach: Suite für Violoncello solo Nr. 1 G-Dur BWV 1007
Benjamin Britten: Suite für Violoncello solo Nr. 3 op. 87
Johann Sebastian Bach: Suite für Violoncello solo Nr. 6 D-Dur BWV 1012

An artist expressing themselves on their own as a soloist without any accompaniment, is an invention dating back to baroque. Perhaps the solo cellist is symbolic for a new beginning, for society’s view on the individual. String players raise their voices as soloists since Bach, Benjamin Britten on the other hand deliberately based his solo suites on Bach’s style.
