This is where the heart of the festival beats: The guest performances by major German and European orchestras in the Regentenbau are the hallmark of the Kissinger Sommer. The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and many other top orchestras regularly perform here with major symphonies and instrumental concerts, under the direction of conductors such as Manfred Honeck, Jakub Hrůša, Paavo Järvi, Joana Mallwitz, Kent Nagano and Sir Simon Rattle and alongside great soloists.
The phenomenal acoustics, which the Max Littmann Hall owes to its complete, ingeniously suspended cherry wood panelling, also contribute to the unique concert experience. This is appreciated not only by the orchestra and audience, but also by the singers: Waltraud Meier once commented: »So the Regentenbau – and the Great Hall in particular – it sounds like it's doing its own thing! I always have the feeling: I open my mouth and don't even need to sing, because it sings itself!«. And Cecilia Bartoli added: »This is a hall in which I don't have to force myself despite its size, but on the contrary: I can experiment with how quiet I can be while singing. That opens up enormous scope for interpretation.«
